El Peñol Lakes and Guatapé
From Medellin, we booked an all day tour to the Lakes resort of El Peñol and Guatape. Both of these are up in the hills at an elevation of more than 7000 feet. For this reason, JT and Hara elected to stay back since JT couldn't handle the altitude.
Unfortunately the guide on the bus spoke very little English, so I was able to understand about 15% of her monologue about the region.
We stopped first for breakfast and then went on to the main town of Peñol which had a Cathedral carved from a huge granite formation. From there we took a boat ride on the lake which featured a very young singer who was quite good. On the Lake, were the burned out remains of villa of the notorious Pablo Escobar- the Cocaine Drug Lord in the 1970's.

From there we re-boarded the buses and went up higher to the main attraction, a huge granite rock mass over 1000 feet high that over looked the lakes. We decided to skip climbing the numerous stairs to the top and just admired the view from the restaurant where we had lunch.
